A Film about Fish out of water

Bite to Bite chronicles the fascinating journey of one giant Bluefin tuna from the frigid waters of Nova Scotia to the sushi tables of Japan as two Canadian fishermen and a scientist from Texas follow their fish around the globe to the famed Tsukiji Seafood Market in Tokyo.  Along the way, Bite to Bite serves up a rare glimpse inside the controversial and lucrative Bluefin tuna industry, interweaving tales of overfishing and sustainability with traditional fishing communities struggling to stay afloat.

About THE PRODUCER

Robbie Schallert, a native of Austin, Texas, brings a deep scientific curiosity and respect for the ocean’s most powerful fish. After earning a degree in Biochemistry from The University of Texas, Robbie joined Dr. Barbara Block’s lab at Stanford University, where he explored the cardiac protein channels of endothermic fish. His research focuses on how pelagic species—such as tuna, sharks, billfish, and mantas—navigate and utilize the ocean, blending advanced telemetry and molecular genetics to uncover their movement patterns, behavior, and ecological roles. Driven by both scientific inquiry and a passion for marine conservation, Robbie’s work sheds light on the vital connection between these remarkable animals and the health of our oceans—an understanding crucial for protecting biodiversity and shaping sustainable fisheries management.
